Belize Travel and Transportation

When relocating to any foreign country one of the most important things to consider is the travel time back and forth to your home country. Nobody wants to spend too much time on a flight anywhere in the world attending family functions such as graduations, birthdays, family holidays and worst of all in the event of an emergency. Belize offers the ease of travel to any visitor or those that wish to stay and live and call Belize home. Belize is a travel point from several US gateways that operate out of several major US international airports.  These are serviced by several major international airline companies such as American Airlines, Continental Airlines, TACA Airlines, US Airways and Delta Airlines with direct flights or nonstop flights from Atlanta, Miami, Charlotte, Dallas and Houston all of which are just a couple hours away at the most.

For the more adventurous traveler, Belize is accessible by road from Canada and the US, through Mexico or from the Southern regions through Guatemala.

When in Belize, you can experience travel at its best by three major forms of transportation, namely:

  • Air Transport
  • Land Transport
  • Water Transport

Air Transport

International and Domestic Air Transport is available to and from Belize and within Belize. International Air Transport services to Belize are provided by the following: American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, TACA Airlines, US Airways and Amerijet International provides Cargo Services.

Domestic Air Transport is provided by the following: Maya Island Air, Tropic Air, Javier Flying Service and Astrum Helicopters.

Land Transport

Visitors and Residents alike in Belize can access all districts, towns and villages by means of travelling by roads. Belize has 4 major Highways: the  Northern Highway which travels from Belize City to the northern most parts of Corozal District, the Western Highway that travels from Belize City to the most western part of the Cayo District, the Hummingbird Highway which travels from Belmopan, Belize’s Capital City, to Dangriga in the Stann Creek District,  and the Southern Highway which travels from Dangriga to the most southern regions in the Toledo District.

(BUS Transport). There are bus terminals in all major towns and convenient bus stops within villages along the major highways. Bus Terminal locations and major stops:
